Mardi Gras, know as Carnival in other parts of the world, is the most important festival in Southern Louisiana. It is the party that leads up to Lent, the 40 days before Easter Sunday.
The Zulu Krewe Parade. This was shot at the beginning of the parade, when it passes through an old residential neighborhood. This is very different from the French Quarter Mardi Gras. In the neighborhood Mardi Gras is a family event, with small children and old people, and everyone in between. No drunks (but it was at 8AM), just a lot of fun. The day was overcast with soft light, but occasional sun breaking through. The pictures were taken hand held with a Linhof Technika IV, 150mm Linhof Symmar, and Tmax 400 film.
